I've always loved to paint, draw and craft, and so Foxberry Ceramics was born! My journey nearly always begins with a terracotta plant pot, and through my own process, I craft unique and fun hand-painted plant pots with embossed houseplant designs. Each of my creations is a labor of love, infused with time, effort, and a passion for plants. In this blog post, I will take you behind the scenes to explore my embossed technique, from the air dry clay to the finished piece.
Crafting Process:
Starting with Terracotta:Â my journey begins with high-quality terracotta plant pots and making sure it's clean and prepped for painting.
Sculpting with Air-Dry Clay:Â To create my signature embossed houseplant designs, i sculpt and cut air-dry clay into my chosen patterns and designs. This step will add depth and texture to my plant pots, making each one unique.
Adding the Designs:Â These clay cuttings are carefully applied to the terracotta pot's surface, and placed to create my illustrated houseplants in pots designs.
Base Coat Painting:Â After the clay designs are dry and secured in place, i choose my colour base and apply a few coats.
Painting the Leaves:Â The favourite part of my process is hand-painting the embossed leaves. Each leaf is painted with love and care, bringing the design to life with vibrant colors that mimic the beauty of the plant I'm painting.
Adding Details with Posca Pens:Â To enhance the intricacy of my designs, i use Posca pens to add fine details and highlights.
Varnishing for Protection:Â To ensure the longevity of my creations, i l apply layers of varnish. This not only protects the design, but also makes it water resistant and gives a glossy finish.
